4-Channel TLP281 Optocoupler Module for Arduino | Isolation Board
4-Channel TLP281 Optocoupler Isolation Module for Arduino & Microcontrollers
Protect your microcontroller from high-voltage systems and electrical noise with this compact 4-Channel Opto-isolator Module built around the TLP281 IC. Ideal for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and single-chip microcomputer (SCM) projects, this breakout board creates a solid electrical barrier between your low-voltage logic side and higher-voltage output circuits — keeping your sensitive components safe and your signals clean.
How It Works
Inside the TLP281 IC are four LEDs paired with four photodiodes. When a signal is applied to an input pin (IN1–IN4), light crosses the isolation barrier to trigger the corresponding output (OUT1–OUT4) — all without any direct electrical connection between the two sides. Onboard transistors correct the natural signal inversion produced by standard opto-isolators, so the logic you put in is faithfully replicated on the high-voltage output side.
Key Features
- 4 Independent Channels: IN1/IN2/IN3/IN4 independently control OUT1/OUT2/OUT3/OUT4
- Low-to-High Voltage Control: Drive 9V or 12V (up to 24V HVCC max) circuits from a 3.3V or 5V microcontroller
- Logic-Preserving Design: Onboard transistors correct signal inversion — input logic is replicated at the output
- Electrical Noise Barrier: Isolates noisy motor/servo circuits from your sensitive MCU logic
- High Sink Current: Maximum absorption current of 500 mA per channel
- Arduino & SCM Compatible: GND connects directly to your Arduino or microcontroller ground
- Compact PCB: Only 25 × 24 mm (approx. 0.98 × 0.94 in) — fits tight enclosures and breadboard builds
- DIP Package IC: Easy to inspect and replace if needed

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the maximum high-voltage supply (HVCC) this opto-isolator module can handle?
A: The HVCC input on this 4-channel TLP281 module supports a maximum of 24V. It is commonly used to interface a 3.3V or 5V microcontroller with 9V or 12V output circuits, such as motors and relays.
Q: Does this module invert the input signal like a standard opto-isolator?
A: No — unlike bare LED opto-isolators that naturally invert the signal, this board includes onboard transistors that correct the inversion. The logic level you apply at an IN pin is faithfully replicated at the corresponding OUT pin on the high-voltage side.
Q: Is this module compatible with Arduino boards?
A: Yes. The input pins (IN1–IN4) connect directly to Arduino digital I/O ports, and the GND pin connects to your Arduino ground. It works seamlessly with 3.3V and 5V Arduino and other microcontroller platforms.
Q: Can I use all four channels simultaneously and independently?
A: Absolutely. Each of the four channels operates independently — IN1 controls OUT1, IN2 controls OUT2, and so on. All four can be active at the same time without interference.
