GY-33 TCS34725 Color Sensor Module – UART & IIC Interface
GY-33 TCS34725 Color Sensor Recognition Module
The GY-33 TCS34725 Color Sensor Module is a compact, cost-effective color recognition solution designed for makers, robotics enthusiasts, and engineers. Powered by the highly capable TCS34725 sensor chip, this module accurately detects and identifies colors by measuring RGB ratio values — making it a versatile upgrade over older TCS230 and TCS3200 modules.
Made in Mainland China.
How It Works
The onboard illumination LED emits light onto a target object. The reflected light passes through an integrated filter, which captures the RGB ratio values. The built-in MCU processes these values and outputs color data directly — no complex calculations required on your end. The module supports 7 simple color recognitions out of the box, with results readable via serial UART (TTL) or IIC (I²C) interfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between the GY-33 TCS34725 and older TCS230/TCS3200 color sensor modules?
A: The GY-33 TCS34725 color sensor module features a built-in MCU that handles all color calculations internally, outputting clean RGB values directly. Unlike the TCS230 and TCS3200 modules, the GY-33 supports UART and IIC communication interfaces, includes adjustable LED brightness, and offers 7 simple preset color identifications — making it easier to integrate into microcontroller projects without complex signal processing.
Q: What communication interfaces does the GY-33 color sensor module support?
A: The GY-33 supports two communication formats: serial UART (TTL level) with configurable baud rates of 9600 bps or 115200 bps, and IIC (I²C, 2-wire). Both continuous and query output modes are available, and your configuration settings are saved even after the module loses power.
Q: Is the GY-33 TCS34725 module compatible with Arduino and other microcontrollers?
A: Yes. The GY-33 operates at 3–5V and communicates via standard UART or IIC interfaces, making it compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, STM32, and most other popular microcontroller platforms. Its low 15mA current draw also makes it ideal for battery-powered and embedded DIY projects.
